In his work of 1899, The Dutuit collection Books and manuscripts, Edouard Rahir indicated that the Mystery of the Old Testament was a collectively-written work from the 15th century.

On this subject, he wrote: “The different parts were collected in the middle of the 15th century by an unknown compiler who contented himself with linking the episodes together with several verses he had composed […].
