The Pelican, intoxicated by champagne, is devouring a fish, neglecting to feed its young which are squawking with impatience. One of the chicks has even fallen out of the nest! The Gourmet Pelican was commissioned in 1890 and originally decorated the Parisian private mansion of Stéphane Dervillé, President of the Bank of France. The house, situated near the Parc Monceau, had previously belonged to the actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Pelican stood on the dining room mantelpiece surrounded by other sculptures in the burlesque style, also the work of Emmanuel Frémiet, one of the 19th century's great animal sculptors.

El pelícano, embriagado por el champán, devora un pez sin preocuparse por alimentar a sus crías que chirrían de impaciencia. ¡Uno de los polluelos incluso se ha caído del nido! Encargado en 1890, el Pelícano gastrónomo, decoraba inicialmente el palacete de Stéphane Dervillé, presidente del Banco de Francia. El palacete, situado cerca del parque Monceau, perteneció anteriormente a la actriz Sarah Bernhardt. El Pelícano se encontraba encima de la chimenea del comedor, rodeado por otras esculturas burlescas, también de la autoría de Emmanuel Frémiet, uno de los grandes escultores de animales del siglo XIX.
