Around 1887, Rodin found a clay study for his Saint John the Baptist which he had shown at the 1880 Salon. He had a plaster cast of it made then the very fine bronze we have here. The Torso reveals Rodin's fascination with fragments and later, around 1900, gave rise to The Walking Man.

Hacia 1887, Rodin vuelve a descubrir en su taller un estudio de barro para el San Juan Bautista mostrado en el Salón de 1880. Pide que se realice un vaciado y una muy bella fundición presentada aquí. El Torso revela la fascinación de Rodin por el fragmento y da vida, hacia 1900, al Caminante.
