The Petit Palais opened its doors to photography and the contemporary image in 1998, and this autumn will be offering an exhibition on women in India and the evolution of their social status. Organised at the instigation of BNP Paribas, the event is being presented with the support of Reporters without borders.
Entitled Women changing India, the exhibition shows 108 images by six Magnum Photos photographers – Olivia Arthur, Martine Franck, Raghu Rai, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Alex Webb and Patrick Zachmann – each of whom has chosen a different subject. These six reportages have a common denominator: each offers a view of the way women are helping to "change the world" and of how, gradually, India is evolving and granting women a more significant role.
